NDIS Code of Conduct

The NDIS Code of Conduct applies to all Young Heroes support workers, service providers, and any other individuals or organisations delivering services to National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations and standards for conduct and behavior to ensure that NDIS participants receive quality care and support in a safe, ethical, and respectful manner.

1. Purpose

The purpose of this NDIS Code of Conduct is to promote professionalism, accountability, and respect within the NDIS services sector, ensuring that support workers, allied health and health professionals adhere to the highest standards of conduct while providing services to people with disabilities. All support workers and providers associated with Young Heroes are required to comply with this Code of Conduct.

2. Key Principles of the NDIS Code of Conduct

As a support worker or service provider within the NDIS framework, you are expected to uphold the following key principles:

  1. Respect for the Rights of Participants:
    • Treat NDIS participants with dignity, respect, and fairness at all times.
    • Recognise and uphold the rights of participants, ensuring they are empowered to make choices about the services they receive.
    • Ensure participants have the freedom to make informed decisions about their care and support.
  2. Acting with Integrity:
    • Act honestly, ethically, and transparently in all interactions with participants, families, and other parties.
    • Provide clear, accurate information to participants regarding the services you are providing and any potential risks.
    • Always act in the best interests of the participant and avoid any behavior that could compromise their well-being.
  3. Safeguarding the Well-being of Participants:
    • Ensure that the safety, health, and well-being of participants are paramount.
    • Recognise and act to prevent any form of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of participants.
    • Report any concerns regarding potential harm or abuse immediately to relevant authorities and the Young Heroes team.
  4. Confidentiality and Privacy:
    • Maintain the confidentiality of participants’ personal, health, and financial information at all times.
    • Ensure that all personal data collected from participants is stored securely and only used for legitimate purposes in line with the Young Heroes privacy policy.
    • Do not share participant information with third parties without explicit consent, unless required by law.
  5. Commitment to Professionalism:
    • Provide services that are consistent with the NDIS practice standards and code of ethics.
    • Continuously improve your knowledge, skills, and competence to provide high-quality support services.
    • Maintain the necessary certifications, licenses, and insurance required to provide NDIS services in a professional manner.
  6. Non-Discrimination:
    • Provide services to all participants without discrimination, regardless of their background, gender, age, disability, ethnicity, or any other characteristic.
    • Ensure your behavior and actions do not contribute to any form of discrimination, harassment, or victimization.
  7. Cultural Sensitivity:
    • Respect and accommodate the cultural, spiritual, and social needs of each participant.
    • Provide services in a manner that is respectful and inclusive of the participant’s cultural, linguistic, and religious preferences.
  8. Transparent and Honest Communication:
    • Communicate clearly and effectively with participants, families, and other relevant parties.
    • Be open, honest, and clear about the services being provided and any related terms or conditions.
    • Provide participants with the opportunity to ask questions, seek clarification, and provide feedback.

3. Responsibilities of Support Workers

As an NDIS support worker, you are expected to:

  • Adhere to the NDIS Code of Conduct at all times during your work with Young Heroes.
  • Complete any required training or certifications related to the NDIS or the specific services you are providing.
  • Report any changes in your qualifications, insurance, or other credentials to Young Heroes.
  • Collaborate with participants and their families to ensure the care provided meets their needs and expectations.
  • Follow all established policies and procedures within Young Heroes, including those related to participant care, safety, and confidentiality.

4. Reporting and Breaches

Support workers are required to report any breaches of the NDIS Code of Conduct or ethical concerns to Young Heroes management immediately. Young Heroes will investigate any reported breaches and take appropriate actions, which may include suspension or termination of services, disciplinary measures, or legal action where necessary.

5. Breach of the NDIS Code of Conduct

Failure to adhere to the NDIS Code of Conduct can result in:

  • Suspension or termination of your access to the Young Heroes platform.
  • Termination of any ongoing services with participants.
  • Investigation into potential legal action, including reporting to NDIS quality and safeguarding bodies or other regulatory authorities.
  • Possible permanent ban from using the Young Heroes platform or engaging with participants.

6. Acknowledgement of the NDIS Code of Conduct

By using the Young Heroes platform and providing services to NDIS participants, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to comply with this NDIS Code of Conduct. You agree to maintain the highest level of professionalism and ethical behaviour when engaging with participants, families, and the Young Heroes community.
